Dry Dock
Hallingbury Marina has an outdoor dry dock which can be rented for hull blacking, repairs and hull surveys. It can accommodate craft up to 72ft long with beams up to 13ft and drafts up to 3ft 3in (subject to local water levels).
The dry dock is bookable for hire on a 4-day basis (Mondays @ 13:00 to Friday 13:00 and on a half-day basis (Mondays 09:00 to 12:30) for hull surveys and emergency works. (NB Schedules change around Bank Holidays).
The decision of anode fitting on steel hulls can be made after first inspection once in the dock, and Hallingbury Marina can arrange for anodes to be subsequently fitted. Other works that are offered included stern-gear repacking or replacing, rudder re-alignment, rudder stock & cup replacement, prop and prop shaft replacement, welding including the addition of sections of overplating.
Refloating of vessels are often carried out by owner request on Fridays as this is usually more than enough time to get the blacking applied and cured.
Currently, narrowboat owners can stay on-board during their hull blacking dry dock stay. However, caution must be exercised to stay safe and no gangplanks whatsoever are permitted for renters or their pets, so this should be considered before booking as access is by fixed ladders only. In addition, no under-16s are allowed in the dry dock area for any reason.
Please be aware that airdrafts of more than 6ft 6in may have issues navigating bridges on the River Stort, especially when water levels are high.
